"Wowowee" is doing well without Willie Revillame

Willie Revillame may have been expecting that the show that he hosted for the last five years will not stand without him but bad news for him, a few weeks after he went on indefinite leave, the show is still doing well in terms of television ratings especially when action star Robin Padilla took over the show a week ago.

In fact, Padilla’s hosting stint on “Wowowee" ranked No. 5 on Twitter’s worldwide top trending topics when he was formally introduced as Revillame’s temporary replacement on May 15.

And based on the television ratings data released by global research specialist Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS), “Wowowee’s” audience share even jumped from 18.1% on May 14 to 20.5% on May 15. The show’s audience share on May 17 was at 20.5%.

The show also continued to beat its rival according to the TNS national data. The competition's audience share on May 14 was 12.2%; on May 15, 13.6% ; and on May 17, 11.4%, figures from TNS showed.

In direct opposite to the arrogance of the host that he temporarily replaced, Padilla humbly vowed to improve his hosting skill. He recognizes that he is new to hosting and has committed mistakes in their past episodes.

Robin Padilla may not be the perfect choice as a replacement for Willie Revillame but anybody is better than Revillame. This man, Willie Revillame is so arrogant and never learned his lessons. I’m so sick of seeing him on TV. He can transfer to TV5 or to channel 7 for all I care. My noontime TV viewing will be a lot better without him.

Willie is YES! mag's most powerful entertainer

Leading entertainment magazine “Yes!” listed “Wowowee” host Willie Revillame and Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III, chairman and chief executive officer of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., as the most powerful entertainer and most powerful executive, respectively, in local show business.

The latest issue of Yes! features "The 50 Most Powerful in Showbiz." The 48-year-old Revillame is in the No. 1 position in the entertainers category.

“As many people adore Willie as disapprove of him – but nobody can be indifferent to him,” the magazine said.

It pointed out that the comedian’s show, "Wowowee," has kept “Eat Bulaga!,” the longest and popular noontime show in the country, on its toes. It described "Wowowee" as the “persistent thorn in Eat Bulaga!’s side.”

It also mentioned Revillame’s “global” status with his popularity among Filipino workers abroad.

“What’s even more amazing is his audience’s continued adulation despite the negative issues that hound him to this day, foremost of which is the deadly 2006 stampede at the Ultra stadium that marked his show’s anniversary,” the magazine said.

P1 million a day?

The magazine said Revillame reportedly earns P1 million per day from his contract with ABS-CBN and endorsement agreements.

Revillame is followed by Kris Aquino, John Lloyd Cruz, Robin Padilla and Marian Rivera. They occupied the top five spots.

Other Kapamilya stars who made it in the list are: Toni Gonzaga, Sarah Geronimo, Bea Alonzo, KC Concepcion, Ruffa Gutierrez, and Sam Milby. Ai-Ai delas Alas, Piolo Pascual, Sharon Cuneta, and Judy Ann Santos.

Gabby Lopez

Under the showbiz executive category, meanwhile, Lopez is on top spot as the magazine noted his aggressive expansion projects and the steady growth in ABS-CBN's main business (i.e. broadcasting) ever since he assumed leadership in 1997.

These expansions include ABS-CBN Interactive, Star Records, Roadrunner Network, and ABS-CBN Global.

“Another bright spot: ABS-CBN Global, carrier of The Filipino Channel, managed to lure close to two million overseas viewers to TFC by the end of 2008 via its many platforms – cable, direct-to-home, online streaming, mobile, and syndicated ABS-CBN programs on free television,” the magazine noted.

“Yes!” said the personalities who made it on its 2008 list are “industry players who took an active role in shaping the landscape of entertainment over the past 15 months: January 2008 to March 2009.”

Just a 'caretaker'

In an interview with ABS-CBN's Mario Dumaual, Revillame denied he earns P1 million a day from ABS-CBN.

"Hindi ako kumikita ng ganung kalaki....Babayaran ba ako ng ABS-CBN ng ganun? Kumita man ako ng piso o isang milyon, sinisikap ko na pareho pa rin ang aking performance dahil maraming sumasaya sa pera na yan," he said.

Revillame said it is the support of viewers that makes him and "Wowowee" strong, adding that he is just the show's "caretaker."

20,000 watch 'Wowowee' live in Dubai

Dubai, UAE—More than 20,000 people, mostly overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from the Middle East and as far as the United States flocked to Dubai to watch “Wowowee,” a noontime and variety game show, hosted by Willie Revillame.

Some of the fans arrived at the venue on the eve of the show to have a guaranteed front-row seat at the Dubai Festival City.

The gates were supposed to open by noontime, but organizers said they had to move it an hour earlier to give space to the massive crowd.
"Wowowee in Dubai" is the first leg of the show's world tour sponsored by The Filipino Channel (TFC).

Liezel Garcia, a former Dubai-based scholar of Pinoy Dream Academy 2, was the first to perform with her own rendition of “Disturbia,” “Take a Bow,” and “Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw.”

Dancers Luningning, Milagring, Mariposa and Saicy and alluring co-hosts Mariel Rodriguez, Valerie Concepcion and Pokwang spiced up the show.

The crowd went wild as Revillame emerged from the stage. He sang a medley of his hit singles – “Wowowee,” “Buksan Mo Papasukin Ako,” “Umaalog-alog,” “Sayaw Darling,” “Rock ‘n’ Rollin,” and “Igiling-giling.”

Charice, dubbed as the “most talented girl in the world,” left the whole Dubai Festival City concert arena in awe after her powerful rendition of Celine Dion's “Alone” and “Because You Loved Me.”
