Sasha and Malia Obama Dog

According to reports, a dog is set to arrive at the White House on April 7 and they are looking at getting a rescue Portuguese water dog. So does this mean that Sasha and Malia are finally getting their dog? And why of all breeds, they choose a rescue Portuguese water dog?

Well, honestly, this is the first time that I heard of this breed. Based on articles from the web, Portuguese water dogs are a breed similar to poodles but they are a fairly rare breed.

The First Lady, Michelle Obama told that they have considered getting this breed as Sasha and Malia Obama Dog is due to its good-natured reputation and it’s medium-sized. And since Malia has allergy to dogs, it is important that this breed is also as close to hypoallergenic as a dog could be.

Portuguese Water dogs are loving, independent, intelligent and are easily trained in agility and obedience skills. These are the reasons why they make excellent companions. They are commonly friendly even to strangers once introduced. They also energetically enjoy being petted, which, due to their soft, fluffy coats, is a favor that human beings willingly grant them.

A blog post in Thoughts.com puts it right when it concluded that choosing a rescue dog it not only sweet and humane but it is a comment on Obama’s politics and where America is headed. “The fact that the least of us will be taken care of is spoken loud and true with this choice.”
