'Your Song Presents: Underage' premieres on March 1

After the success of “My Only Hope,” “Your Song Presents” offers the television adaptation of the 80’s teen flick movie “Underage” which will start on March 1. It will feature screen partner Matt Evans and Melissa Ricks which were last seen in the television series “IIsa Pa Lamang.”

Joining the cast with Ricks and Evans are young actors Empess Shuck, Lauren Young, Valene Montenegro, AJ Perez, Rafael Rosell, William Lorenzo and Sylvia Sanchez.


Since the original “Underage” movie was quite sexy, the teen stars will now be playing more mature roles in their new drama mini-series.

However, the young stars clarified that the TV adaptation will not be as sexy as the original film.

“This is different. Magpapakita kami ng konting skin. This is another step na naman. Kumbaga inuunti unti naming ‘yong paggawa ng more mature roles. We’re not kids anymore na rin. We’re still teenagers but we’re going into the transition of becoming adults na. May ilang sensitive scenes dito kaya ‘yon ang pinaghahandaan namin,” said Ricks.

Under the direction of Manny Palo, the story will revolve around the lives of three young sisters – Ricks, Shuck and Young - who grew up in the province and are about to face a whole new world.

Ricks will portray the role of Celina, the most confident among the three siblings. Shuck breathes life to the character of Cecelia, the toughest of the three, while Young plays the role of Corazon, the frail man-hatter. As they bump with new people, their real journey begins.

The director said that since he will be working with teens he will make sure that he will handle the sensitive scenes carefully.

“We can go a little more daring on an afternoon. Nasa treatment yon and I’m working with underage actors so yung maselang eksena ay pag-iingatan ko,” Palo stressed.

According to Palo, “Underage” is the first TV adaptation that will be featured by ABS-CBN’s “Your Song Presents.” It will also air adaptations of some well-loved Filipino teen flicks from the 80’s like “Blue Jeans,” “14 Goin Steady” and “Bagets.”

“Underage” was released by Regal Films in 1980 and was considered to be the launch pad of Dina Bonnevie, Snooky Serna and Maricel Soriano as young-adult actresses.

“Underage” film was originally directed by Joey Gosiengfiao. with story screenplay by Toto Belano.

KC thrilled over new project with Piolo

KC Concepcion said it is an honor to be working with one of the country’s most-sought after leading man, Piolo Pascual.

“It’s an honor to be paired with Piolo this time around. I’m very excited about that,” Concepcion said.

KC and Piolo are set to star in the Filipino version of Korean television series “Lovers in Paris.” This is their first project together.

“Sobra siyang maalaga… he is a really, really good guy and playful din. Para siyang bata kaya nakakatuwa siyang makasama. Kahit mga workshop pa lang ang ginagawa namin ay nakikita ko na ang magiging samahan namin kaya nakakatuwa,” Concepcion said.

Angel Locsin set to star in 'Only You' remake.

Fresh from her hospital confinement, Angel Locsin was seen in the recently-concluded trade launch of the Kapamilya station at the Rockwell Tent to promote the forthcoming remake of the Koreanovela “Only You” where she will play the lead role opposite Sam Milby and Diether Ocampo.


The beautiful actress wowed the audience who watched her sexy dance number although she later admitted that she is yet to get back her usual 'high energy level'.

"Actually after ko ma-discharge sa hospital, one week bed rest talaga yung kailangan, ayaw mag-compromise nung doctor ko on that regard. After nun nagdire-diretso na ako na everyday trabaho. Hindi pa talaga bumabalik yung resistensya ko tulad ng dati. Nagulat nga ako kasi napaka-active ko tapos isang sayaw pa lang medyo kinapos na ako ng hinga. So kailangan ko talagang habulin... kailangan ko mag-exercise para bumalik [yung dati ko'ng lakas]," she said in an interview.
Angel, however, will not be able to rest properly as she is set to start taping her new soap in Korea this coming March. The original koreanovela was set in Venice, Italy.

"Sabi nila maaabutan daw namin yung spring dun. Eh hindi pa ko nakakapunta ng Korea kaya hopefully kahit papaano makakapagsight-seeing kami. Tapos kasama pa si Direk Rory Quintos na lagi ko'ng nakakasama sa mga out of the country shooting so I am sure panibagong experience ulit ito," she revealed.

But for her fans who can not wait to see Angel on TV, they can catch her this February 28 as she takes another acting challenge on a very special role for an episode in Maalaala Mo Kaya.

"Excited talaga ako kasi yung gagawin naming episode may cause. Gusto naming ng MMK na ipaalam sa mga tao kung ano yung kwento sa likod ng mga nakikita nating tao na pakalat-kalat sa kalye na minsan nakahubad, minsan kinatatakutan natin. Ipapakita naming kung bakit nangyayari ito at kung bakit hindi natin sila kailangang katakutan kasi kailangan nila ng suporta at pag-iintindi. At saka hindi natin alam kung ano'ng pinagdadaanan nila, sobrang depressed nung tao at hindi sila conscious dun sa mga ginagawa nila or nangyayari sa kanila," she finally stated.

Jommy who earned the moniker "Scorpion King" after eating 20 scorpions in one of the challenges also earned the respect and admiration of other contestants after setting a Fear Factor world record in the Car Re-Entry stunt.

'SuperManuel' eliminated from Pinoy Fear Factor

Struggling businessman Manuel Chua, the erstwhile "king of stunts," plunged to a shocking elimination on Wednesday during the first stunt of the ultimate round of elimination of "Pinoy Fear Factor: Argentina, South America."

“SuperManuel's" last flight was sealed when he was slowest to get out of a makeshift grave in the "buried alive" stunt.

The struggling businessman prematurely lifted his body out the hole, which caused an avalanche of sand that trapped his lower body underground. It took him over eight minutes to finish the stunt.

Fittingly, it was "Kryptonite" Marion dela Cruz who won the challenge. Jommy Teotico followed with a time of 4:40 while Janna Dominguez clocked in 7:43.

With a time of 3:53, dela Cruz finally gained his own "Fear Factor" world record through this stunt, besting a participante from Turkey who finished it in 4:09.

Chua had been the game's most dominant player with victories in the earlier rounds, which made him the target of his co-participantes. He also broke two "Fear Factor" world records via the "Slippery Car" and "Net under Helicopter" stunts.

Teotico, the lone Pump Squad member left, said he is proud to have outlasted Chua but is also sad to see their "big brother" leave El Campo Miedo. Dominguez and dela Cruz, meanwhile, were left to tears.

"I made a wrong move. I could have done better," Chua said.

With “SuperManuel's" early departure, the competition among the three remaining participantes heats up. The "Ultimo Participante" will receive P2-million prize and a house and lot.

John Lloyd and Sarah are SM Cinema's Box Office King and Queen.

SM Cinema recognized its own Box Office King and Queen for the first time and the recipient of the awards for 2008 are no other than John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo for the Star Cinema romantic comedy “A Very Special Love”. The movie is also the top-grossing Pinoy film of 2008.

SM Cinema also released their list of top-grossing Philippine films of 2008 which was based on the ticket sales from their 198 cinemas nationwide, including the IMAX theater in SM Mall of Asia.

'Ruffa and Ai' energizes ABS-CBN morning slate

Actress-host Ruffa Gutierrez and actress-comedienne Ai-Ai delas Alas shared their happiness with the success of the pilot episode of their morning show “Ruffa & Ai,” this Monday, February 16.

In an exclusive interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Guttierrez said that she’s overwhelmed and honored to work with the country’s Queen of Comedy.

“Ay naku! Haping-happy ako kasi grabe talagang napakataas ng energy. Talagang pag-live show pala especially kapag morning anything goes, tanggal na yung sapatos , tanggal ang lapel,” she said.

“Si Ai-Ai na a-aaching yung talagang wala lang, relax lang,” she added.
For the first episode of “Ruffa & Ai,” host-talent manager Boy Abunda introduced the new queens of morning show.

Actress-endorser KC Concepcion was the show’s first mystery guest. KC gave rice, salt and sugar as a sign of good luck for the newest show.

Cris Daluz, 74, dies

Cris Daluz, a veteran actor and former radio reporter passed away early Thursday after suffering a mild stroke. He was 74.


The actor reportedly died in Olongapo City where he was shooting scenes for a Korean film. He was then rushed to James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital where he died.
Daluz appeared in numerous movies such as critically acclaimed Himala, Bagong Buwan, Sukob and Katas ng Saudi.

He is best remembered in his portrayal of the character Isko Macaspac, who was stricken with Alzheimer’s disease, on the successful TV series “Pangako Sa’Yo.”
The actor was last seen in the new TV series, “May Bukas Pa”.

ABS-CBN, Velvet Skycable Channel 53 and Studio 23 are the exclusive live carriers of the awards.

The much anticipated awards ceremony, which will be hosted by actor Hugh Jackman, will be telecast live on Channel 2 on February 23 at 9:45 a.m.

The complete coverage will be shown on Velvet Skycable Channel 53, starting with a live telecast from 7 a.m and extending to the main awarding ceremony at 9:30 a.m.

To give more Oscar fans the chance to catch the show, there will be a primetime encore telecast on Velvet on the same day at 6 p.m. A replay of the complete coverage will be aired on February 28 at 3:30 p.m.

Studio 23, meanwhile, will carry the first primetime telecast on free to air television on February 24 at 7 p.m.

Leading the pack of elite front-runners in this year's glamorous Oscar derby is Brad Pitt's blockbuster hit “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” The film grabbed 13 nominations including best motion picture of the year.

Also, Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire” is going head-to-head with other Hollywood blockbusters for the coveted best motion picture award.

Big stars including Angelina Jolie, Bradd Pitt, Sean Penn, Penelope Cruz, Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Mickey Rourke and Anne Hathaway are expected to grace the red carpet and the main awards ceremony.

TNS: ABS-CBN is leading network in RP

A national ratings survey done by TNS Media Research showed that ABS-CBN remained the leading network in the country.

From February 1 to 7, 2009, TNS Media’s survey results showed that 43.5 percent of 1,200 households were tuned in to ABS-CBN while its competitor only got more than 36 percent.

TNS Media said viewers from NCR would show an almost even distribution of program preferences for the two leading networks. Suburbs and Central Luzon showed preference to GMA 7, it added.

Majority of viewers from North Luzon, South Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, on the other hand, showed preference toward ABS CBN, according to TNS Media.

Most-watched shows

In the same survey, Kapamilya television programs also continued to dominate the list of top most-watched shows.

Noontime variety show Wowowee was the top national weekday (morning and afternoon) program.

The top four programs on primetime, meanwhile, were May Bukas Pa, I Love Betty La Fea, TV Patrol World and Tayong Dalawa.

Maalaala Mo Kaya, Flash Bomba, Rated K, Singing Bee, Dragonna, on the other hand, were the top five weekend programs.

Other most-watched ABS-CBN shows from February 1 to 7 based on TNS Media Research were:

* GMA 7 programs topped the list of programs preferred by the Es but May Bukas Pa, I Love Betty La Fea, Tayong Dalawa and TV Patrol World were included on the top 10 preference.

“In the total Philippines, ABS is definitely the larger broadcaster on a national scale. And in Mega Manila, there's almost nothing between the two broadcasters,” said Phillip Jones, regional director of TNS-Southeast Asia and Pacific.

Jones added: “We see major jumps in the news coverage. People are turning to television to catch up.”

ABS-CBN, meanwhile, thanked its viewers for their unwavering support. ABS-CBN added that it would continue to offer new shows to the Kapamilya viewers.

“Ni-reconfirm lang ‘yong ating national leadership. Sabi nga ng marami mahirap ang panahon pero hindi naman ibig sabhin nyan eh magpapabaya tayo sa mga programang i-share natin sa kanila,” said Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN Corporate Communications head.

February 10 survey results

Meanwhile, TNS Media survey results showed that 11 ABS-CBN TV programs were also among the top 20 most-watched shows for February 10.

New show May Bukas Pa, a TV drama series on hope and faith, topped the list (39.2 percent). I Love Betty La Fea (37.2) and Tayong Dalawa (35.7) took the second and third spots, respectively. “TV Patrol World” was ranked fourth, with 31.7 percent.

Wowowee, Pinoy Fear Factor Argentina, South America, Kapamilya Deal or No Deal, Carlo J. Caparas' Pieta, Parekoy, Pilipinas Game Ka Na Ba? and La Traicion The Betrayal also made the list.

Kristine Hermosa is the new Mars Ravelo’s ‘Maruja’

The long wait is finally over for all Kristine Hermosa fans as 2009 will definitely be a busy year ahead for the Kapamilya star. Kristine will play as “Maruja”, an upcoming sinerserye which is based on the 1967 film starring Susan Roces and Romeo Vasquez.

“Maruja” is an immortal love story of Mars Ravelo about two people whose love for each other transcended a century.

This sineserye also star John Estrada, Gloria Romero, Rafael Rosell, and the new Kapamilya Karylle.

Kristine has another project on ABS-CBN which is scheduled to be released this year that will reunite her with former love team Jericho Rosales. It is entitled “Ikaw Lamang”.

Piolo thrilled to work with KC in 'Lovers In Paris'

Piolo Pascual shared that he is excited to work for the first time with young actress KC Concepcion in the local version of Korea's hit television series "Lovers In Paris."

Pascual said that he and Concepcion will undergo acting workshops together and start to tape the series this week.

"I'm just looking forward to it because this is KC's first soap as well, so ang daming nag-aabang. Ang tagal niya itong hinintay at pinag-isipan. Kasi hindi birong gumawa ng soap opera. So I wanted to be there for her," he added.

Pascual said he is sure that ABS-CBN will give a new flavor to the story.

"Ako personally may tiwala ako sa station, may tiwala ako sa management. Dito ang ibibigay natin yung Filipino flavor. Kasi upon watching nakita ko talaga yung culture ng Korea. Nakita ko how they fall in love... kung ano ang traditions nila. Dito iba naman. It's an adaptation pero definitely bibigyan namin ng texture ng Filipino culture. Ibang panlasa. Makikita mo talaga kung paano ma-inlove ang mga Filipinos," he explained.

The actor said he is also thrilled to work again with well-acclaimed director Eric Reyes, who also directed his hit series 'Lobo' with Angel Locsin.

"Ang sarap na after two months of rest sa TV, sa soap, mayroon na naman akong parang drive na, wow ang sarap umarte. Ang sarap na magkakaroon ka na naman ng bagong character," he added.
