Actor-singer Vhong Navarro was the first millionaire of ABS-CBN’s “Pinoy Bingo Night,” which aired its pilot episode Monday.

“[There are] two games every night so P2 million a night [ang] ipamimigay,” host Kris Aquino said.

Melanie from Binangonan, Rizal, on the other hand, was the first studio player to win P50,000.

“Every night may sure kang winner whether from studio audience, 200 of them, or the solo player. If you’re just watching at home, home player [can win] P200,000,” Aquino said, adding:

“Ang goal ng programang ito ay maging maginhawa, maging magaan ang buhay ng bawat Filipino. The reason I was wearing a Filipiniana is [because the show] is so Pinoy. Ipagmalaki natin.”

The newest and the biggest game show on ABS-CBN has “the most hi-tech set ever in the history of game shows in the country.”

Rio Locsin thrilled over ABS-CBN's adaptation of 'Kambal sa Uma'

Actress Rio Locsin shared his excitement with ABS-CBN's television adaptation of her 1978 hit movie "Kambal sa Uma (Twins on the Farm)."

In an interview with abs-cbnNEWS.com, Locsin shared her disbelief when a report reached her that the Kapamilya network wants to make an adaptation of her movie which was based from the Pinoy Komiks hit of the same title.

When the project was confirmed, the actress said that she was really happy and excited now that young ones of this generation will be able to see all the good values from her old movie's story.

According to Locsin, the TV adaptation of her old film will have a lot of twists and additions.

"Sa original kasi ang nanay ko pagkapanganak sa akin namatay na, dito ay hindi ako mamatay mahihiwalay lang ang kambal 'yon ang journey ko 'yong paghahanap," Locsin.

Locsin, who is not a newbie in portraying a mother, said that she is also happy to be playing a mother for the shows’ lead stars - young actresses Melissa Ricks and Shaina Magdayao.

In the "Kambal sa Uma" movie, Locsin played the role of Ella (a half-human half-rat), the daughter of Milagros while in the TV series, Locsin will play the role of Milagros, the mother of Ella.

"Nakakatuwa din kasi, young generation ang gagawa. Ang gagaling ng mga artista at kino-consider nila ako. At least kinikilala nila ang nagawa ko. Hindi pala nakakalimutan at ngayon binabalik nila," she said.

Asked of what she can say with Ricks who will be doing her role bin the 1978 movie, Locsin replied: "Naku maghanda-handa sila. Magandang show ito pero kapag natapos namin ito makakabuti talaga sa kanila.”

“Kambal sa Uma” film was produced by SQ Film Productions under the direction of well-acclaimed director Joey Gosiengfiao. Aside from Locsin, the stars from the movie were Orestes Ojeda, Al Tantay, Julie Ann Fortich. Introducing then were showbiz siblings Dennis Roldan and Isabel Rivas.

A Kapamilya actress gave honor to our country after she won the Best Supporting Actress trophy in the recently concluded Asian Film Festival held in Hongkong last Monday. Gina Pareño bagged the prestigious award in the Film Festival which is dubbed as the Asian Oscars for her role in the indie film 'Serbis'

This is not surprising since Pareño’s performance in “Serbis” which was also an entry in the Cannes Film Festival last May has already earned her another international recognition when she won Best Actress at the 6th Pacific Meridian Film Festival in Vladivostok, Russia.

Pareño also won a Best Actress trophy for Jeffrey Jeturian’s 2006 film “Kubrador” at the Osian’s-Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema in New Delhi, India; the International Festival of Independent Film in Brussels, Belgium; and the Amiens International Film Fest in France.

Willie is YES! mag's most powerful entertainer

Leading entertainment magazine “Yes!” listed “Wowowee” host Willie Revillame and Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III, chairman and chief executive officer of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., as the most powerful entertainer and most powerful executive, respectively, in local show business.

The latest issue of Yes! features "The 50 Most Powerful in Showbiz." The 48-year-old Revillame is in the No. 1 position in the entertainers category.

“As many people adore Willie as disapprove of him – but nobody can be indifferent to him,” the magazine said.

It pointed out that the comedian’s show, "Wowowee," has kept “Eat Bulaga!,” the longest and popular noontime show in the country, on its toes. It described "Wowowee" as the “persistent thorn in Eat Bulaga!’s side.”

It also mentioned Revillame’s “global” status with his popularity among Filipino workers abroad.

“What’s even more amazing is his audience’s continued adulation despite the negative issues that hound him to this day, foremost of which is the deadly 2006 stampede at the Ultra stadium that marked his show’s anniversary,” the magazine said.

P1 million a day?

The magazine said Revillame reportedly earns P1 million per day from his contract with ABS-CBN and endorsement agreements.

Revillame is followed by Kris Aquino, John Lloyd Cruz, Robin Padilla and Marian Rivera. They occupied the top five spots.

Other Kapamilya stars who made it in the list are: Toni Gonzaga, Sarah Geronimo, Bea Alonzo, KC Concepcion, Ruffa Gutierrez, and Sam Milby. Ai-Ai delas Alas, Piolo Pascual, Sharon Cuneta, and Judy Ann Santos.

Gabby Lopez

Under the showbiz executive category, meanwhile, Lopez is on top spot as the magazine noted his aggressive expansion projects and the steady growth in ABS-CBN's main business (i.e. broadcasting) ever since he assumed leadership in 1997.

These expansions include ABS-CBN Interactive, Star Records, Roadrunner Network, and ABS-CBN Global.

“Another bright spot: ABS-CBN Global, carrier of The Filipino Channel, managed to lure close to two million overseas viewers to TFC by the end of 2008 via its many platforms – cable, direct-to-home, online streaming, mobile, and syndicated ABS-CBN programs on free television,” the magazine noted.

“Yes!” said the personalities who made it on its 2008 list are “industry players who took an active role in shaping the landscape of entertainment over the past 15 months: January 2008 to March 2009.”

Just a 'caretaker'

In an interview with ABS-CBN's Mario Dumaual, Revillame denied he earns P1 million a day from ABS-CBN.

"Hindi ako kumikita ng ganung kalaki....Babayaran ba ako ng ABS-CBN ng ganun? Kumita man ako ng piso o isang milyon, sinisikap ko na pareho pa rin ang aking performance dahil maraming sumasaya sa pera na yan," he said.

Revillame said it is the support of viewers that makes him and "Wowowee" strong, adding that he is just the show's "caretaker."

Vidanes was ABS-CBN Head of Entertainment Production since 1996. A Communication Arts graduate from Ateneo de Manila University, Vidanes began her career in television with BBC- 2 in 1982. Other movements in the higher echelon of ABS-CBN include the appointments of Paolo Pineda as Head of ABS-CBN Business Development and Connie Nolasco Lopez as ABS-CBN Interactive Managing Director.

Pineda joined the ABS-CBN subsidiary in 2000 as its Business Development Manager. He quickly rose in the ranks as Interactive’s mobile group head in 2002 and finally, its managing director in 2005.

Nolasco-Lopez, on the other hand, started out in SkyCable as an analyst in 1995 and eventually, its corporate planning manager. ABS-CBN to launch summer station ID

Summer always sizzles with energy. This summer season, ABS-CBN’s Station ID shows how such vigor can be used to help make the country a better place.

In the colorful music video, entertainment stars and news personalities will be seen building homes for the poor, cleaning a river and the sea, sweeping streets, feeding children, among many other community activities.

They will also be dancing to a lively song performed by “Kanto Boys” Billy Crawford, John Lloyd Cruz, Luis Manzano and Vhong Navarro. The song, written by Robert Labayen and Peewee Gonzales, is about “spreading love and care everyday and everywhere.” The music was composed by Star Records’ Christian Martinez.

ABS-CBN chose the socially relevant theme recognizing the hard times brought about by the global recession.

The creators of the summer station ID believe that the scarcity of material wealth can be overcome by an abundance of generosity and concern for one another. That is also why the company’s TV channel is using the battlecry “Kayang-Kaya Natin, Kapamilya” for the whole year.

Guided by the unchanging motto “In the Service of the Filipino Worldwide,” ABS-CBN has always been engaged in a lot of public service programs.

Last year, ABS-CBN launched Bayanijuan as the banner tying together all of the company’s work in protecting the rights and welfare of children, saving the environment, providing educational tools, rebuilding disaster-hit communities and empowering the poor through sustainable livelihood programs. The media company also recently launched Kapit-Bisig sa Ilog Pasig. All of these projects are done with the help of donors, partners and volunteers from both the government and private sectors.

The summer station ID was created by ABS-CBN’s Creative Communications Management Team.

The project was led by Johnny de los Santos, Danie Sedilla-Cruz, Edsel Misenas, Kathrina Sanchez and Dang Baldonado. It is directed by Paolo Ramos and Peewee Gonzales. Other members are Jimmy Porca, project coordinator; Wowie Hao, cinematographer; Sam Esquillon, production designer; Rap Dela Rea, editor; Maribeth Bichara, choreographer; Rosalie David, caster; Marvin Bragas, location manager.

Updated: Manny Pacquiao returns as a Kapamilya?.

It looks like, this story has not yet met its conclusion as the Pinoy boxer, Manny Pacquiao and Solar Entertainment has patched their differences yesterday.

Manny apologized to his fans for any confusion that may have been caused by his decision to cut and then renew his ties with Solar Sports Entertainment.

Here is a report from absCBNnews.com:

“Taos puso akong humihingi ng paumanhin kung kayo man ay naguluhan kung saan ipapalabas ang aking darating na laban kay Ricky Hatton. Ito po ay resulta lang ng hindi pagkaka-intindihan sa pagitan ng Solar Entertainment Corporation at MP Promotions,” Pacquiao said, in a statement read by his lawyer Franklin Gacal and aired over GMA-7.

Pacquiao said he decided to return to Solar after personally meeting with the company’s president Wilson Tieng and chief operating officer Peter Chanliong.

ABS-CBN's response:

In response to this latest development, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. said it has a signed contract with Pacquiao but that it would respect his decision if he changes his mind.

"Manny Pacquiao approached ABS-CBN to be his media partner in airing his next fights. We thank him for trusting us. He signed a contract with us, but we will not stand in the way if he decides to change his mind," ABS-CBN said. "We respect it, wish him good luck and we wait to hear from him."

Gacal, meanwhile, said that there is a possible meeting between Pacquiao and ABS-CBN Vice President for Sports Peter Musngi Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

"Sa ABS-CBN po, we would like to inform everybody that there is a possibility that Manny Pacquiao will be meeting Mr. Peter Musngi tomorrow," said Pacquiao's lawyer.

Pacquiao had rescinded his contract with Solar Sports Entertainment and chose ABS-CBN as the local broadcaster of his match against Hatton and other succeeding fights.

He claimed that Solar allegedly failed to settle its dues at the time specified in their contract.

Solar, however, claimed that the company has fulfilled all its financial obligations to Pacquiao.

Here is the original report:

Manny Pacquiao, the Pinoy boxing hero is back as a Kapamilya after he renewed his ties with ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. The Kapamilya station will air his next matches including his highly-anticipated fight with British boxer Ricky Hatton on May 2.

“Pagkatapos kong pag-isipang mabuti nilapitan ko ang ABS-CBN at nagpagpasyahan ko pong makipag partner muli sa kanila,” Pacquiao said.

“Sarili ko itong desisyon,” he added. “Sa ABS-CBN mapapanood nyo ang laban ko kay Ricky Hatton at iba ko pang laban.”

Pacquiao and ABS-CBN have worked before in some of his fights and the broadcasting network has been airing his matches to Filipinos overseas through ABS-CBN's The Filipino Channel.

“Wala pong pagbabago,” number one pound-for-pound fighter said. “Ang laban ko ay laban nating lahat mga Pilipino, kahit saan mang sulok ng mundo.”

Pacquiao also appealed for his fans to continue their support especially in his forthcoming fight against Hatton, who is considered as his toughest match to date.
ABS-CBN welcomed the return of Pacquiao and it assured its support for his campaign against Hatton.

“We are very happy with the decision of Manny Pacquiao to be his partner in future fights, including the Pacquiao-Hatton fight on May 2. As his former media partner, we shall support Manny's campaign to bring honor to the Philippines and to his kababayans here and around the world,” Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN Head of Corporate Communications, said in a statement.

“To Manny, we say, 'Welcome home, Kapamilya',” he added.

Sharon excited over Mother's Day movie with Ai Ai

Sharon Cuneta expressed her excitement as she makes another movie this year after her blockbuster movie Caregiver. She said she’s happy that she’ll be working with Director Wenn Deramas and comedienne Ai Ai de las Alas.

Although her co-star, de las Alas was not present during their first shooting day, Cuneta was looking forward to working with her knowing that the comedienne is now in good shape.

De las Alas was discharged Friday from Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation hospital, where she was treated for acute pyelonephritis and acute gastritis.

With John Estrada as her husband and de las Alas as best friend in the movie, Cuneta is glad to be working again with old friends and co-workers.

The Megastar is overwhelmed with emotions: happiness, excitement, pressure and anxiety while working on the movie as it will be shown on May 30.

“It’s no joke talaga to do a movie na medyo you don’t want to rush something just for the sake of having something na iso-showing in time for Mother’s day. Pero siyempre gusto mo maganda yung quality,” the actress explained.

Cuneta is confident the project will do great because she’s working with the best people for the movie.

"City by the Bay" pictures.

I love taking pictures and I am even considering taking photography lessons in the future. I also enjoy looking at pictures taken by professional photographers. It’s amazing how they can capture different moments and how they can tell stories through photographs.

What I particularly like most are photos of different places and locations. Even though you haven’t been to a different country, looking at different photographs from other side of the world can make you feel that you’ve been to that place.

When I saw pictures of San Francisco, one of the most populous cities in the United States and probably one of the most visited, I started dreaming of visiting the place. The photos of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Fisherman’s Wharf, Seal Rocks, the Palace of Fine Arts and other landmarks are all amazing. You can visit the gallery of photos taken by photographer Richard Wong and see for yourself the beauty of San Francisco. These San Francisco pictures are available for rights-managed image licensing and for purchase as fine art prints.

ABS-CBN issues statement on MMK’s ‘Blusa’ issue

ABS-CBN on Tuesday released a statement addressing the issues generated by a controversial episode of drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK),” which features real life stories of ordinary people.

Below is the official statement released by Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN Corporate Communications head:

Storytelling in “Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK)” is always based on narratives sent to the program by people who want to share their stories. MMK decides to go into production of the chosen stories ONLY after the letter sender has signed a waiver attesting to the authenticity of the story sent.

MMK recognizes that a number of UPLB alumni are questioning the truthfulness of one letter sender who claims that her sister, the main character in “Blusa” essayed by Ms. Angel Locsin, was indeed a UPLB BS AgriBusiness summa cum laude graduate who could not find a job and ended up as a stripper.

When MMK found out about the adverse reactions, the MMK production group went back to the letter sender to inform her of the issue raised and to re-verify her account. She reiterated that she stands by her story.

Be that as it may, and after careful deliberation, MMK realizes that its writing and research pool may have been remiss in one thing----verifying with UPLB the veracity of the indicated facts of the letter sender. Having said that, MMK sincerely apologizes for the oversight.

MMK always aims for truth and excellence. This incident may have deviated from its tight norm, but rest assured that MMK will continue to serve its publics with utmost care and respect.

Shopping for furniture online

Shopping for furniture can be a challenging task. It’s a good thing that you no longer need to go to different furniture shops to look for different furniture styles; you can now shop for furniture online.

However, make sure that you only choose the furniture store that has a proven track record of selling quality furniture. You also have to check that the online store has a great selection of furniture, the best deals and has free shipping. You also need to check the store policies especially the return and exchange policy.

I even found a furniture store online with important articles and consumer guides on how to buy furniture online and furniture style guide in case you still don’t know what furniture you’re looking for. They even have guide to furniture care to ensure that your dining room furniture will last for many year.

They also have a wide array of Home Office furniture selection. I particularly fancy the expresso sleigh beds that they have on their website.

Diether, still an exclusive Kapamilya

As previously reported, Diether Ocampo is still an exclusive Kapamilya star. He signed an exclusive contract with the Kapamilya station last March 4. He is glad to put rumors of transferring networks to rest.

Diether said that he would rather move past the issues and concentrate on becoming active in showbiz again. “What’s important is that I remain a Kapamilya and you’ll be seeing more of me. I’ll be doing a lot of projects starting this year and sisimulan namin yan with this project with Angel Locsin and Sam Milby. We’re actually leaving for Korea in two weeks time,” he shares.

Diether is part of the Philippine adaption of the hit Koreanovela Only You. Aside from Only You, he also has more projects lined up for the year. The actor admits that he is very content with ABS-CBN’s plans for him this year. “Siyempre, wala namang binibigay sa akin na hindi maganda eh. I’ve so many things to be thankful for and for me, ang importante nga, nandito na. Finally we sealed the deal and yun ang importante na nakita natin na mas madami na akong magagawang proyekto ngayon and I’m happy also kasi kasama ko yung iba kong kapamilya sa Star Magic and it’s not only me na nabibigyan ng magandang proyekto,” he explains.

Diether was last seen in the teleserye “IisaPa Lamang” last year. “I think it’s about time that people should move forward. Look forward to seeing us do a lot more projects na dekalidad dahil alam naman nila na ‘pag gumawa ang ABS-CBN, talagang kaabang-abang dahil pinagbubuti naman namin lagi ang trabaho namin. Sa tagal ng ginawa naming training, hindi naman namin basta-bastang mararating kung nasan kami ngayon kung hindi naming pinaghirapan so talagang sulit yung paghihirap at pagtiya-tiyaga,” he concluded.

Sasha and Malia Obama Dog

According to reports, a dog is set to arrive at the White House on April 7 and they are looking at getting a rescue Portuguese water dog. So does this mean that Sasha and Malia are finally getting their dog? And why of all breeds, they choose a rescue Portuguese water dog?

Well, honestly, this is the first time that I heard of this breed. Based on articles from the web, Portuguese water dogs are a breed similar to poodles but they are a fairly rare breed.

The First Lady, Michelle Obama told that they have considered getting this breed as Sasha and Malia Obama Dog is due to its good-natured reputation and it’s medium-sized. And since Malia has allergy to dogs, it is important that this breed is also as close to hypoallergenic as a dog could be.

Portuguese Water dogs are loving, independent, intelligent and are easily trained in agility and obedience skills. These are the reasons why they make excellent companions. They are commonly friendly even to strangers once introduced. They also energetically enjoy being petted, which, due to their soft, fluffy coats, is a favor that human beings willingly grant them.

A blog post in Thoughts.com puts it right when it concluded that choosing a rescue dog it not only sweet and humane but it is a comment on Obama’s politics and where America is headed. “The fact that the least of us will be taken care of is spoken loud and true with this choice.”
